Michelle Mendieta Mean is an artist and photographer based in London.
Their work explores queerness, intimacy, and the tensions between visibility and concealment. Across photography, painting, and mixed media, they create conceptual, emotionally driven narratives that investigate identity, desire, and the human condition. Mendieta’s projects are often personal and introspective, blending staged and observational photography, travel-based street work, and studio-based fine art. Mendieta’s practice is informed by an interest in philosophy, questions of being, and the absurdity of existence to examine moments of solitude, reflection and the fragile, often contradictory nature of the human condition.
Mendieta holds a Master’s in Photography from the Royal College of Art and a Fine Art degree from the University of Oxford, and was awarded the 2024 New Photography Prize.
